The forgotten Yelle Mallappa Shetty Lake will be in limelight in no time.
YELE MALLAPPA SHETTY
LAKE, located in the north-eastern part of Bangalore, was built by a
philanthropist. A rich merchant in Bangalore named Yelle Mallappa Shetty, came
up with the idea in the year 1890, the year which was followed by water
scarcity. The then lifeline for the people is now just a park who doesn’t even
know its history. It provided water during the water scarcity. But now,
residents are literally cursing for the pollution caused by the lake. Initially
it was built across 300 acres which now hit down to 260 acres. The wildlife
photographers experienced 38 species of migratory birds.
Yelle
Mallappa Shetty Lake, once a lifeline, now a curse. But it is not even
recognized by the people. The citizens need to realize the importance of lakes
in a busy polluted city like Bangalore. The vastness of trees in this kind of
lakes supply huge amount of oxygen, the one we are surviving with. But the
waste inlets into the lakes are high than the number of trees. This location is
now developing and being proposed with many upcoming projects. For the
betterment of the residents, it must be renovated and the actions ar being
taken by the BWSSB (Bangalore Water Supply and Sewage Board). Concorde Mayfair is an upcoming residential apartments near to this lake.
Not only regarding the Yelle Mallappa Shetty Lake, few measures were taken up by the Chief Minister, Siddhi Ramayya and inaugurated four modern Sewage Treatment Plans (STPs) in Bellandur Amanikere, Doddabele, Horamavu Agara and Kadugodi. With an idea to treat 339 mld (Million of Liters per Day) of sewage water, these STPs are part of the project that included the construction of 11 others STPs. Yelle Mallappa Shetty Lake is estimated to treat 15 mld of sewage. BWSSB, which inaugurated STPs with a total capacity of treating 65 mld of sewage, is supposed to complete four other projects in which Yelle Mallappa Shetty lake is one amongst those. It is supposed to be ready by this time. As it couldn’t complete by the deadline which was mentioned as March, it is now causing hassle for the locals of the visitors.
